Using temporal wording to connect the ephemeral act of gesture to the metaphor of spoken language, Gesture, console considers a future body that thrives. In response to clinical measurements and data driven modes of capturing the body in anthropometric studies, the gestures in this work are influenced by notions of social dance practice within nightlife, sonic subcultures of rave music, and fictitious texts that skew the normative trajectory of our future.
Using collaging and subtle editing techniques, the video is split into 4 temporal frames, revealing slight delays and glitches that flourish into new possibilities of pathways and structures for the body. Rather than prescribing a future, the work aims to exercise possibility and rather than executing a notion of correctness, the work embraces imprecision as a mode to deviate to alternative possibilities of encountering the body in motion.
